Reports –
Stewardship – The committee is working on a little different approach to stewardship program this year. The model for this year will be Chick Lane’s “Ask, Thank, Tell”. We will have temple talks to thank/inform the congregation of all the different ministries that are happening at RLC. We are working on a pictorial brochure to be sent to all members showing these ministries in action. Consecration Sunday and Wednesday will be November 20th and 23rd.
Christian Education – Sunday School is going well. We have 1 college student that is teaching this year. The committee will be on the 23rd to discuss Advent.
Church in Society – Clothing and food drive is complete. We partnered with St. Joe Parish on this project. The St. Joe Lions contributed $1000. Share the Spirit collection will begin the end of November.
Staff support – The committee is trying to do a little more one on one, as time permits.
Worship and Music – The committee will meet next week. The Confirmation service is set for Sunday, October 30th at 1:00 p.m.
Youth and Family – Families of students will be asked to donate pies for Wednesday, November 23rd. The garage sale is set for November 11th and the community bake sale will be December 3rd.
Pastor Linda added to her report by saying that she attended the Theological conference.
Pastor Dwaine added to his submitted report by stating that we are receiving 6 new families/individuals on Sunday and Wednesday. We hired a new nursery attendant and her name is Sarah Torchia. We have 2 funerals at RLC this week.
Property – After service on the 23rd, the committee and helpers will be moving furniture so that the carpets can be cleaned.
We moved into new business first as Greg Seelen gave a presentation on the insulation in the Church. Basically, things are in pretty bad shape. There was a motion and a second to proceed with getting a firm bid from Greg and one additional contractor to redo the insulation and present it to the Congregation at the annual meeting. The funding for this project would come out of the building fund. Motion carried.
Old business –
The Building Needs Task Force gave the original plans and the addition plans to Larry the architect. Dan has an agreement to sign the outlines the work that Larry will do for us.
New Communion ware was dedicated. We are having some smaller chalices made as well as small plates for the gluten-free products. We are also getting dividers for the cabinets.
The water polo team stayed at RLC and there were no major problems. They left a $100 donation as a thank you.
Other new business –
The insurance check for the roof came and it was $39,664.80. This is a depreciated amount and we will receive an additional $29,106.73 upon completion of the work. There was a motion and a second to get another bid for the roof that will include putting metal facia over the entire building. We will also include a resolution at our annual meeting that will authorize the council to spend up to $10,000 to fix any structural damage, if any is found during roof repairs. Motion carried.
Mark will check into the costs of installing a small dishwasher in the kitchen that meets the requirements for commercial use. He reported that without the use of sanitizers, the dishes probably are not getting as clean and sanitary as they should be.
Financials –
Wilbur reported that we are looking pretty good. Our income is down about 4.9%, but our expenses are down 3.6%. The checkbook balance is down slightly.
The next meeting will be Thursday, November 10th, 2011 at 6:30 p.m.
Devotions – Rachel
Treats – Lou
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Pastor Linda led us in a closing prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Mark Kranz
Council Secretary
