September 8, 2011

The Resurrection Lutheran Church Council was called to order by acting President Wilbur Wilkens at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2011.  Those present in addition to Wilbur were:  Mike Lage, Jeanie Wilkens, Rachel Kuebelbeck, Steve Johnson, Lou Jagielski, Dan Kuntz, Mark Kranz, Pastor Linda and Pastor Dwaine.

There were no changes to the agenda.  There was a motion and a second to accept the Secretary’s report of the minutes from the previous meeting.  Motion carried.

Reports-

Outreach – Involvement on the Mall is Tuesday night.  There will be a banquet for college students on Sunday, Oct. 2.

Stewardship – Pastor Dwaine recently attended a stewardship seminar.  Consecration Sunday and Wednesday will be Nov. 20th and 23rd.  The committee will be meeting soon to finalize plans.

Christian Ed – Rachel reported that all the teachers are in place and they are preparing for the new Church school year.

Church in Society – 5 boxes of school supplies and $50.00 were distributed to Casa Guadalupe and Peoples Church.  The Children’s Home will also receive some supplies.
There will be a food and clothing drive on Sat. Sept 17th with the St. Joseph Parish.  Jeanie reported on some progress with the Promise neighborhoods, five groups have been formed.

Property – We didn’t have any storm damage lately.  We do have some damage to shingles and Wilbur and Mike will work together to get a claim submitted.

Youth and Family – The Confirmation retreat will be held this coming weekend.  The committee met a couple of weeks ago and did some long range planning.

Staff reports

Linda – Getting ready for the new school year.  She has been very busy with Youth and Family things.

Dwaine – Pastor Dwaine highlighted his report by pointing out the average worship attendance on Wednesday, which was 28.  Confirmation is Oct. 30.  The large class is creating concerns with the worship schedule, looking in to some alternatives.

Old Business

Building Needs Task Force – Dan found the plans for the original building as well as the remodel.  These will help to figure things out with Larry the Architect.  Larry will look at the plans and give us some ideas on how to proceed.

Communion ware will be dedicated on Sunday, Sept. 18 and Wednesday, Sept 21st.

Electronic giving – Steve and Dan are working on this.

Peace Lutheran Church has decided not to move the cemetery at this time.  RLC is connected to this cemetery and it is available to our members.

New Business

Winter farmers market will again be at RLC.  There will be 2 dates in November, 2 in December, 1 in January, February, March, and April.  The fee will be $50 for each use.  Dan made a motion and Rachel a second to approve this use request.

Habitat for Humanity would like to use our facility for their “more than Habitat” meetings that they are having in the area.  This meeting will be a Tuesday or Thursday for 1 hour sometime in October.  There was a motion and a second to approve this use request.

A water polo team would like to use the Church for an overnight stay on the weekend of 9/30 for 2 nights.  We decided that there must be some conditions in place for this to happen.  There was a motion and a second to approve this use of our facility with the understanding that our conditions are met.  Lou will contact them and relay this information.  Motion carried.

Financials

Balance in the checking went down $5,000.  The giving is down 5.5% and our expenses are down 4.3%.  If you have any questions please feel free to ask Wilbur.  He will get a response to you almost immediately (no kidding!).

The next meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m.

Devotions – Mike L.

Treats – Mark K

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Dan led us in devotions to close the evening.

Respectfully submitted,
