The June 2nd meeting of the Resurrection Lutheran Church Council was called to order by Vice President Dan Kuntz at 6:55 p.m. Those present in addition to Dan were: Lou Jagielski, Jeanie Wilkens, Wilbur Wilkens, Mark Kranz, Mike Lage, Rachel Kuebelbeck, and Pastor Dwaine.
Jeanie led us in devotions.
There was a motion and a second to approve the agenda as it was presented. Motion carried.
There was a motion and a second to approve the minutes from the April meeting (the last time we met). Motion carried.
Reports
Outreach – They are in the early stages of July 4th planning.
Christian Ed – Sunday school is now over and they are looking ahead to VBS. It will run from July 31st to Aug. 4th from 6-8:30 p.m. The theme this year is “Hometown Nazareth”.
Church in Society – They collected $372.44 for Anna Marie’s as well as some gardening tools. All the micro loans have been paid off at this time. Jeanie reported on GRIP. Many families in District 742 live in poverty. Talahi Elem. is especially hard hit with 85% of the students receiving reduced lunches. Jeanie also attended a meeting to learn more about the Catholic worker house that is being set up in St. Joseph. They will rely on volunteers from area congregations to run some of the programs. More info will be available as things develop.
Property – Lawn mowing is in full swing. Tom and Kyle Krueger are working on a plan for redoing the landscaping along the sidewalk.
Youth and Family – The committee hasn’t met for some time. Farmers market is going. They are having trouble getting folks to volunteer for Youth and Family activities.
Staff reports – Pastor Dwaine reported that over the past 2 months they have been 5 baptisms, 1st communion, and we have added several new members. We have interviewed a candidate for the nursery position and are waiting background check.
Old Business
Building Needs Task Force will meet on 6/23 to go over all the surveys. It is not too late to give your input.
Rain garden/prayer garden – Both are beginning soon. Rain garden is starting 6/7 with digging. Planting will take place on Monday, June 20th at 8 a.m. The area for the Prayer garden is being prepared.
New communion ware – The order for new communion cups has been placed. To date we have received $410 in the 1st 2 weeks. There was a motion and a second to use funds from the memorials and the interest to fund the difference, if necessary. Motion carried.
SW MN Synod Assembly – Both Pastors will be attending and Jeanne Bruns will be the congregation representative. Kari Foss will preach on June 12th.
New Business
The 1 year building fund appeal is coming to an end. A letter will go out to members of the congregation thanking them for their pledges and encouraging them to continue giving for ongoing maintenance and costs associated with building/remodeling. People may also continue to give their building fund pledge to the general fund if they so chose.
Pastor Dwaine reported on the increasing interest in electronic giving. This appeals to many younger people and may make it easier for people to make their contributions. There are some costs associated with this program. This item will be passed on to the Finance committee for some further study.
Financial report
Wilbur says that everything is looking good overall. Some budget items are over and some are under. We have seen quite an increase in giving through the Thrivent Choice program. To date we have received $2249.00. If you are a Thrivent customer and wish to learn more about this program, talk to Wilbur or your Thrivent agent.
