Council Minutes
April 14, 2011
The April 14, 2011 meeting of the Resurrection Lutheran Church Council was called to order by President Troy Battig at 6:30 p.m. Those present were: Wilbur Wilkens, Jeanie Wilkens, Steve Johnson, Dale White, Mike Lage, Mark Kranz, Pastor Linda and Pastor Dwaine.
Troy led us in devotions.
There weren’t any additions to the agenda. There was a motion and a second to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried.
There was a motion and a second to approve the minutes from the March meeting. Motion carried.
Reports:
Church in Society – Deb Schroeder from Anna Marie’s Shelter will be with us on May 15th. The committee is requesting that a special offering be collected for Anna Maries. There was a motion and a second to allow this on May 15th. Food Share month project collected $1883.85 and about 250 lbs. of food.
Property – Mike is contacting the hardware store about renting the lawnmower this year. The committee is planning a spring cleaning day soon. No date has been set for this at this time.
Worship and Music – Met on Tuesday and reviewed the Easter schedule. They also talked about replacement of communion cups. Pastor Dwaine announced that we have a very generous donor who has agreed to pay for ½ the cost of replacing the communion cups, with the difference being raised by donations from the congregation. There was a motion and a second to give the Worship and Music committee permission to go ahead and find a solution to the communion cup issue. Motion carried.
Youth and Family – Plans are all set for the Easter breakfast. Mission trips are being planned this summer for S. California and/or Mexico and Bemidji. Watch for more details.
Staff reports – Pastor Linda reported that the director of Campus Ministries has resigned. There will be some changes on campus as a result of this resignation. Graduation at the colleges is set for May 14 and 15. The student farewell is May 1st.
Pastor Dwaine reported that worship attendance during Lent was very good. The puppets were a big success with the kids. Thanks to Karin and Dan for their work with the puppets, as well as all those who helped with the worship. We had 3 members of the congregation provide interesting and informative sermons. Guests from our companion Synod in South Africa will be visiting us after Easter.
Old Business –
Building Needs Task Force – Many surveys are back and they will be looking at them right after Easter. It is not too late to complete a survey if you haven’t done so.
Prayer/Rain Garden – The bids have been put out and we are waiting to get them back
Council Retreat – The retreat was cancelled and we will not re-schedule it. We will, however, do some of the activities that we would have done at the retreat during our regular council meetings.
New Business-
SW Minnesota Synod Assembly is set for June 10-12 at Gustavus. Deadline for getting a reduced rate on registration is May 6th. Please talk to one of the Pastors if you are interested in representing our Congregation.
Finance –
Wilbur reported that our general fund giving is up 2% and the building fund giving is up 4.23%. The expenses for the Church are down 3.05%. Some things are up for the year (snow removal, telephone, etc) and some things are down.
The next meeting will be Thursday, May 12th at 6:30 p.m.
