Council Minutes
March 10, 2011
The March 10, 2011 meeting of the Resurrection Lutheran Church was called to order by President Troy Battig at 6:40 p.m. Those present were: Dan Kuntz, Wilbur Wilkens, Jeanie Wilkens, Mark Kranz, Rachel Kuebelbeck, Steve Johnson, Pastor Linda and Pastor Dwaine. Dan led us in devotions.
There was one addition to the agenda under new business. There was a motion and a second to approve the agenda with the added new business of insurance. Motion carried.
There was a motion to approve the January and February minutes with a spelling correction changing mover to mower. Motion carried.
Reports:
Christian Education – Rachel reported that they are putting some extra effort and emphasis on giving. They are designating Global Barnyard as the recipient of the offerings. There are some little cardboard barns for the children to take home and put money in. They are looking for helpers for VBS (July 31-Aug 4). The theme is Jesus of Nazareth as told by Mary.
Church in Society – March is MN foodshare month. We will be passing the square baskets for the local food shelf.
Staff – Pastor Linda would like to have another bookcase if anyone has one they would like to get rid of. Talk to her about sizes, etc.
Worship and Music – Troy reported about the upcoming Lenten and worship schedule. They are looking for readers for the Passion.
Finance – Steve reported that general fund giving is up .07% and building fund giving is up 6.78%.
Staff reports – Pastor Linda is hosting a group talking about the book The Faith Club. The knitting group is going great. There are lots of knitters, both men and women.
Pastor Dwaine highlighted his report by saying that overall attendance is down from 2010. Lent was earlier last year. WOW attendance is up and about 1/3 of our members worship on Wednesday. The theme for the Wednesday Lenten service is the 10 Commandments.
Old Business
The Building Needs task force and sent a letter to everyone. They are asking that people fill out the survey and turn them in so that we can get feedback. They want to know what the congregation thinks of the Church and the use of it.
The Executive committee is still looking into doing the background checks on those people that come in contact with children. They will make a recommendation to the Council.
The Council retreat will be March 19th from 9-1 at Living Waters. Troy will bring lunch and beverages. We will do some group building activities, planning and visioning, and worship.
New Business
Wilbur got some quotes for the property and liability insurance for the Church. Grinnell is $3295 per year and Allied is $4571 per year for the same coverage. There was a motion and a second to go with the Grinnell bid of $3295 per year. Motion carried.
Wilbur reviewed the financials. We gained $1699.11 from January and had a balance on 2/1/11 of $8570.13
Next meeting will be Thursday, April 14th at 6:30 p.m.
